The National Junior Little League tournament is a junior competition which was first introduced back in the 1976/77 Season for boys under the age of thirteen years old, following the expansion of Little League Football. The competition is the most prestigious in what is offered by Little League Football. The original trophy was donated by William “Tom” Arnold, the President, which replicates the well-known English F.A Cup.
A National Tournament Committee was set up right from the beginning. With only sides from Surrey and London initially in the competition it wasn’t until the late 80’s until the introduction from the Little Leagues from the Birmingham Division. To help save spending on travel, the cup group stages were sorted into two sections - Southern and West Midlands. Each region would play their preliminary rounds up to and including the quarter-finals within their own section, the final being hosted at several league venues over the years, which generally alternated between the Midlands and Southern section.
Back in 2001 the National Tournament was hosted at Leyton Orient F.C where snooker legend, Steve Davis, presented the trophies the competition was also sponsored by the Sunday Mirror.
The competition format has changed in over the years most recent was in 2004 with the representation Leagues who participate in the cup having being divided into equal groups, where possible. The winners of each group then progress to the “Finals” week, where the semi-finals and final is played to determine the champions of the competition.
In 2018 mixed teams were indroduced with the addition of the new Frank Adey Trophy in rememberance of our late founder.
